How do you say CHAMBERO in English?

"Yes, we're SCAVENGERS, and we have a battle cry of our own: SCAVENGERS, assemble!"

In Guayaquil, a CHAMBERO is usually an unemployed person who searches in landfills or dumpsters for items or materials to sell later. Due to the high levels of poverty, there are many people who dedicate themselves to this activity. However,  Guayaquil is not the only place in the world where you can find CHAMBEROS, and they receive different names in other countries.
In English, they are commonly called SCAVENGERS.

I find it very curious the way they are usually called, in no way should we discredit the people who do this because in my opinion they seek to earn a living in a way that must be respected. The JERGA in certain countries is usually much more curious and funny.
Zumba Muñoz Samuel: i think that there are so much word to refer to differents situations or person for example this one CHAMBERO and "los guayacos" have strange words. it`s necessary know the bagage culture of even city because sometimes we put say someword and we are incorrect

I think that there are some ways to call them to the people in street situation, apart from those who have no jobs there are also those who use drugs, there are countries where they are called vagabonds, beggars or homeless.

well that is a very common word in Guayaquil City to describe that people, but I prefer to Called them recyclers is more comfortable to me, by other hand we don't know xactly what is the económic situations... For example in my neighborhood the recyclers are younger people that's ok however it's a job
It depends on the culture of the other countries and the collocations spoken in each city around the world. My mom calls them cachineros and she is from Manabi.

Jessica Bravo. In my opinion there are two kinds of people who works as chamberos the ones who do that in order to earn money in a decent way so they can support their families and in the other hand the ones that to this activity to earn money in order to by drugs they are not trying to be someone better for the community

In my opinion people who work as Chamberos due to low economics condition have to work collecting cartons, bottles and unused items. They do this activity because should feed their families. On one hand, Unfortunately, Some people are Chamberos to "paying" their addictions such as drugs or alcohol and that not good for society.

I think that, first: being a CHAMBERO or SCAVENGERS is a stage that sometimes people who have not made good decisions in their lives have had to live, however, I am not saying that being one is born, therefore, I see that it cannot be something that is taken naturally in society. In answer to the question they are also called Junkman.

The term chambero is quite popular in our city, even so there are many ways to call it, as a city it is normal that there are low-income people, even so, governments must do what is necessary to reduce poverty in all cities of Ecuador.

I think that scavengers are called to people who collect any type of recycled material in order to sell it and have an income for their expenses, although there are people who do it in exchange for substances X that is to say some type of drug.

A CHAMBERO despite the unhealthy working condition, contributes to reducing pollution in the city, is my way of seeing it.
