En verdad el humor americano, si es que se puede hablar de uno, suele ser un poco grosero y casi siempre irreverente, o al menos esa parece ser la tónica en las comedias que salen de Hollywood en los últimos tiempos. Ray Bradbury es considerado uno de los Grandes Tres (the Big Three) de la ciencia ficción mundial que nos diera la segunda mitad del siglo XX. En realidad es errado hacerlo  y no por la calidad de sus obras pues  A Sound of Thunder y particularmente The Martian Chronicles se cuentan entre las obras más importantes del género, sin embargo Bradbury ha escrito muchas otras cosas que nada tienen que ver con la literatura pero que en cambio demuestran una imaginación avasalladora la cual encuentra su fuente en cualquier cosa, según él mismo un objeto sin la menor importancia para los demás es suficiente para él. I have always wondered why the most powerful being in the DC universe is not a bit more popular. The Spectre is basically an angel, the Wrath of God, one that could easily kill millions if he deemed it was necessary to carry on God´s will. The truth is that in a media such as comic books The Spectre is not that great visually speaking and it's a bit hard to relate to. Besides, it has a terrible flaw: it needs a human host in order to be effective otherwise it will eventually lose focus and cannot "function" properly. In the past The Spectre has used his power to decimate innocent people because he was fooled into believing that was right. A human host makes a difference in what decisions The Spectre makes. This character is also a bit polemic for  its inclination to  bring justice "a lá Batman", that is with one individual at a time. What a great rendition of the X-men this is! Anime X-men is by far the best X-men show to date and also the best of the anime shows produced by Marvel this year (the other, Blade, Iron man and Wolverine are not so bad). One thing I like is that the show seems to fit into continuity (or pretends to do so) right after the events of the Phoenix manifestation. The team comprises of the Beast, Storm, Cyclops, Wolverine, Emma Frost and Armor (Hisaki Ichiki) a Japanese mutant girl. Their opponents this time are the U-men, human supremacists now located in Japan who are hunting mutants to collect their organs. What happens in the end? Well, the U-men have extra help. Someone else is pulling the strings and is one of the major villains, only not Magneto or Apocalypse. If you're an X-men fan this is one production you cannot miss. 

Esta sí es una serie bien pensada. Se trata de cuatro tipos que son lo que se llamarían  geeks:  Leonard Hofstadter ,  Sheldon Cooper ,  Howard Wolowitz  y  Rajesh Koothrappali   pues cada uno es una eminencia en su campo, trabajan para universidades pero le s gustan los juegos de video y los comics. There have been two seasons and no more just because the powers-that- be considered producing this series was just too costly. Rome tells you the story of two Roman soldiers, Lucius Vorenus and Tito Pullo, and how they interact with prominent real historical figures as a Julius Caesar in his ascension to become the only governor of the Roman Republic or a still teenage but ambitious Octavius. The writers of the series do a magnificent job telling us the stories of these two men with distinct personalities but friends and heroes to the end. Also we get to see the intrigue, the ambitions of the powerful Roman families of that time, how they used people as pawns in their games of ambition and hatred and let their passions be the true dictators of the mighty Rome.you get to care forn these characters because though their masters become even more corrupt they stay true to their be

Esta serie, presentada en español como la Liga de la Justicia La Siguiente Generación, tiene por todo nombre en inglés, Young Justice. Es una serie muy buena sobre todo en el aspecto visual como por ejemplo en los episodios que suceden en Atlantis. Las historias son en general tan buenas sino mejores que en series previamente hechas por la Warner con material de su filial DC comics. La premisa es el entrenamiento y misiones que recibe un grupo de jóvenes superhéroes (Aqualad, Robin, Miss Martian, Superboy, Kid Flash y Artemis) cada uno el protegido de un miembro de la Liga de la Justicia. Lo interesante es la interacción de estos jóvenes entre sí y con sus mentores, las  aventuras que tienen y como las resuelven. Por mi parte lo que más me gusta es el arte muy parecido al de la película Justice League. Crisis in Two Worlds y que fue el que debieron usar en la primera serie de la Liga de la Justicia (la verdad es que el aspecto cartoon  que le daban nunca me pareció bien). Es un program

TinTin is not a new character. He´s been around far longer than other characters we know. The problem is that TinTin is only or mostly known in Europe. I myself know about the character through other people´s references. His creator is the French artist Sergé, and basically the character is a young man always accompanied by his pet dog, also his best friend. TinTin is a journalist who doesn´t write but still finds a way to embark in thees adventures that very much resemble, according to Stepielberg, those of Indiana Jones. Tintin travels the world, investigates, solves mysteries, and meets unusual though amusing people and together face dreadful villains; all this long before there was any Indiana Jones. Those responsible for bringing TinTin to the world´s attention are the aforementioned Spielberg plus Peter Jackson. the movie uses real actors who lend not only their voices but also their moves to the characters which were created with the same technique of the alien characters in

He aquí una prueba más de que lo mucho que los americanos en realidad desconocen a los latinos. Tristemente esa ignorancia se ve reflejada en los papeles que los actores latinos reciben siendo estos desde el pandillero estúpido hasta la latina ardiente. Incapaces de entendernos incluso el latino parece mostrar una fuerte tendencia a ser homosexual en las películas. El más reciente caso es el personaje Santana López (noten la torpeza de los autores de la serie al nombrar a este personaje usando un apellido) de la serie Glee quien se revela en la tercer temporada como lesbiana. En sí eso no tiene nada de malo. Lo que sí sorprende es que la mayor parte del tiempo son los latinos quienes interpretan estos roles y no  miembros de otras minorías.

DC does it again. One more time they deliver a product of great quality and that is none other than "Batman: Year One", their latest animated film. One thing you get to like is the fact that the main character is not Batman, since he doesn´t even exist, or Bruce Wayne for that matter but a recently-arrived James Gordon. This character is far form being the tough-as-nails commissioner we get to know later on and instead he is a cop with a troubled career caused principally by his strict code of honor that clashes with a corrupt system that involves everyone from the simple street cop to the current commissioner. Gotham is far from being the place where Gordon would like to raise his baby (his wife is pregnant). Not only that: the story is really consistent for it was written by one of the best comic writers of all time: Frnak Miller ( Sin City, Dark Knight Returns ).         Bien, fue recientemente en mi clase de inglés que expliqué a mis alumnos la idea de que al traducir es imposible transmitir siempre por completo lo que se quiso decir en el idioma original. Por ejemplo "I was born..." generalmente se lo traduce como "Yo nací..." pero en realidad no es una traducción enteramente fiel pues al decir "I was born..." uno implica que este no es un acto voluntario y por lo mismo es expresado en voz pasiva mientras en español se usa, tal vez erróneamente la voz activa, cual si nacer fuera un acto voluntario. Claro en realidad no lo es y los hispano parlantes estamos conscientes de ello pero la voz nacer no puede o suele ser usada en voz pasiva porque simplemente así ha sido desde siempre. The third installment of Paranormal Activity is out and it´s not a sequel but a prequel. Usually second parts, or third parts, tend to lack the brilliance and even some of the energy the first part had (if we are talking of a successful film that is), however that doesn´t seem to be the case here since the film has been receiving positive reports so perhaps watching this story might not be a waste of time even if PA3 has only half of the punch PA1 had. The key in understanding why PA3 and also PA2 do not disappoint is that neither is truly a sequel. PA2 says how and why Katie and Micah (the couple in PA1) get tormented by a strange entity with mostly events happening before PA1 and only some of them happening after that. PA3 tells you how Katie and Kristie, both sisters originally met the entity that would come back to haunt them in adulthood.       A great family movie. What is there not to like in it?  The premise is simple really: at some point in the future Boxing has been disappearing and being replaced by Robot Fighting. One of the last boxers in the world, Charlie Kenton, character played by Hugh Jackman, has gotten into that business with very limited success. At the same time he is left with the responsibility of taking care of his only son whose mother has recently died and whose custody will eventually be turned over Kenton´s sister in law.  Kenton wants nothing with the kid,  however, his son, Max played by Dakota Goyo, is the person who is destined to make his life complete and lets him rediscover the power of human heart. Accidentally these two run into an abandoned robot and Max rebuilds it, reprograms it  and convinces his father to use this robot, called Atom, a chance to fight again.                                      Is Ashton Kutcher the ideal replacement of Charlie Sheen?                 After watching the first episode of the new season of Two and a Half Men my impression is that none other than the producers themselves understood that the answer is no. What they did was to create an entirely new character, somebody who were able to create his own niche rather than occupy the one Sheen left vacant, and they will try to move forward from that premise. Ashton is a not a bad actor and he did pretty well but truly I can´t see this series repeating the success it had without Sheen´s character to make his brother´s life miserable in his own particular style. I might be wrong though and I hope I  am. There are nevertheless things that make me suspicious about the whole mess and one of them is that recently Charlie Sheen seemed to have reached a friendly agreement to settle the legal problem he had with the producers of Two and a Half Men. Bien, debería decir que soy un  fanático de García Márquez pero eso sería sólo parcialmente cierto. En su primera versión, en blanco y negro, King Kong es una bestia obsesionada con una humana y que por defenderla se enfrenta a un T-rex bastante aceptable para la época. En la versión de Dino de Laurentis Kong luce menos monstruoso, más humano, aunque también por defender a la chica se enfrenta a otro monstruo: una enorme serpiente ( lo cual tiene más sentido que enfrentarlo con criaturas largo tiempo extintas para la época en que el primer gorila realmente existió ). Y en la versión de Peter Jackson, Kong  se enfrenta no a uno sino a tres T- Rex. Esta es la mejor parte de esa película porque el resto está bien pero no es nada del otro mundo. He seguido la saga de Saint Seiya por casi veinte años. He visto cada capítulo y sus OVAS también. Es una de las series más interesantes en el mundo del animé y para mí la que más disfruto. Porque conozco la calidad del argumento puedo decir que me sorprende que no tenga en Japón la atención que merece y aún más me sorprende el hecho de que no produzcan más episodios nuevos con la celeridad que usan otras compañías para producir capítulos de series de menor jerarquía. Recientemente se dejó de producir una serie que contaba la historia antes de los eventos presentes pero parece que va a quedar inconclusa al menos en la parte animada porque en el formato manga si concluyó. Espero que no sea así porque los dibujos, la música y la trama en sí es inapreciable. Su nombre es Saint Seiya Lost Canvas y es en verdad de lo mejor que he visto y en este punto de mi vida he visto ya muchas obras lo que me da la autoridad para saber de lo que hablo.

Uno de los personajes menos conocidos de universo Marvel es Black Panther (Pantera Negra) que tiene aspectos obviamente tomados del Phantom (El Fantasma). I don´t really know if Henry Cavill is the ideal actor to play Big Blue. First of all, he doesn't completely  look like Superman. Supes has to be and look strong but he also has certain aspects of his physiognomy that make him distinct such as the S curl on his forehead, his blue eyes, or the shape of his face less angular than Cavill´s. I don´t question Mr. Cavill´s thespian abilities but then I didn´t question George Clooney´s either and see what happened when he was Batman in Batman Forever. Perhaps,  I´m wrong and for the good of the Superman franchise I hope I am. So DC is at it again. Once in the eighties they noticed it was time for renewal and they did it by releasing a twelve-issue series called "Crisis on the Infinite Earths" that somehow redefined all DC characters updating their origins in an attempt to make them more accesible to new readers. Did it work? Yes. Superman, Batman and eventually all the other heroes in the DC universe got better and became a little darker in the process leaving behind a lot of unnecessary campiness. Twenty years later these heroes got great stories and were more believable, however, DC felt it was time to revamp again not only those characters and their origins, but to do something bigger in scope. Otra historia ambientada en un futuro apocalíptico, donde los humanos existen en mega ciudades que son regidas por la iglesia católica, mientras que fuera de ellas moran los vampiros, los que quedan luego de la última guerra entre ellos y los humanos, un conflicto que el hombre pudo ganar creando un cuerpo de guerreros infalibles al que se llamó simplemente sacerdotes. Fright Night es el remake de la película del mismo nombre que se estrenó en los 80s. He visto ambas y puedo decir que de la primera me gustó la originalidad de la historia que de alguna manera "modernizó" la figura del vampiro he hizo su presencia posible más allá  de los oscuros castillos de Europa para traerlo justo a lado de nuestra casa. Del segundo filme se destaca la callada intensidad que le confiere a su papel de malvado chupasangre el buen actor Collin Farrell. El final no es tan diferente del primero pero sí lo son los efectos especiales y el maquillaje. ¿Vale la pena verla? Sí por supuesto, sobre todo si usted es un adolescente que no sabe que en realidad hay una versión mejor que le es anterior.
