Batman: Year One
DC does it again. One more time they deliver a product of great quality and that is none other than "Batman: Year One", their latest animated film. One thing you get to like is the fact that the main character is not Batman, since he doesn´t even exist, or Bruce Wayne for that matter but a recently-arrived James Gordon. This character is far form being the tough-as-nails commissioner we get to know later on and instead he is a cop with a troubled career caused principally by his strict code of honor that clashes with a corrupt system that involves everyone from the simple street cop to the current commissioner. Gotham is far from being the place where Gordon would like to raise his baby (his wife is pregnant). Not only that: the story is really consistent for it was written by one of the best comic writers of all time: Frnak Miller (Sin City, Dark Knight Returns). We also get to see an amateur Batman surviving his first superhero days, Harvey Dent being his first collaborator, the origin of Catwoman, and even James Gordon having an affair. The voices have been cast adequately with Elizabeth Duzhku in the role of Catwoman who also stars a solo adventure that accompanies the main feature.
Batman: Year One is not necessarily an origin story. It´s just a story that refers to Batman´s first exploits and it is also an astounding production. A must see.
