How do you say CONFINAMIENTO in English?

In Spanish, CONFINAMIENTO is a measure taken in order to reduce or prevent the widespread of a viral infection. The translation is not Confinement. In English, that word indicates the state or action of being confined so it is not the measure, but its result. The right translation for CONFINAMIENTO is then LOCKDOWN which is defined as an emergency situation in which people are not allowed to move freely for some imminent threat such as COVID 19 spread.

Once I had my high school students read The Most Dangerous Game, a short story by Richard Connell. Rainsford, the main character, is a professional hunter traveling by ship to his next hunting area, accidentally ends up in an island called Ship- Trap island. When he goes into the island he finds there are two men living in a palace in the island. One of them is a Cossack general and the other, his brutish servant.  The Cossack is called general Zaroff who is also  a game hunter but has become bored of hunting regular game and now uses the island's unique position to capture sailors from shipwrecks. Happy Birthday (Ecuadorian style)

Maybe I should have written "Latin American" style in the title of this entry. Probably, the problem we have is also a problem in other Spanish-speaking countries, but I can't really tell for sure (never heard any Guatemalan singing Happy Birthday, anyway). It happens that in Ecuador we celebrate birthdays by singing "Happy Birthday" and after that "Feliz Cumpleaños". First in English then in Spanish. Just like in the movies we gather around a birthday cake and sing to whoever has turned a year older that day. It's a tradition, but that doesn't mean we do it the right way. The problem is most people mispronounce the TH in BIRTHDAY, so what we actually say is HAPPY BIRD DAY.  Another variation is HAPPY BEAR DAY.   Behold, the English alphabet, simple in its design, and yet hard to gain for so many!       A pesar de que creamos que no es importante, hay cosas que debemos invariablemente aprender de un idioma, conceptos muy básicos que deberíamos memorizar.  Cierto es que el proceso de memorización no es aconsejable para el aprendizaje de un  idioma en general, pero sí en particular.
