The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

"Nooo, I forgot my parachute!"

If you like movies that are somewhat different then probably you will enjoy this film.
I don´t know much about the first version (the one I saw is a remake) which was in its turn based on a book by James Thurber. This character Walter Mitty  is played by Ben Stiller who does not really disappoint. His presence in the screen is always fresh and genuine and whenever he appeared he was always believable in a setting that is anything but that.
Walter is an employee of LIFE magazine who is constant daydreamer. He mixes reality with his own dreams whenever things turn sour. At the same time LIFE is about to finish printing in paper and start publication in digital form only. for the last edition he is entrusted to use a photo taken by a legendary photographer Sean O' Connell (Sean Penn). O' Connell seems to have forgotten to send that photo in particular and Walter in despair decides to go looking for him. This decision will change Walter's life forever from a person who only dreams to someone who lives his own dreams. In his frantic search for O' Connell, Walter will go to Greenland, Iceland and even Afghanistan, becoming the man he always wanted to be or he was destined to be.
It's not a great movie but it's a movie with enough quality to make it more than passable. The sequences in Greenland, Iceland and the Himalayas stand out for their beauty, even more than the visual effects used to reflect Walter's daylight fantasies
I loved when Walter finally encountered O'Connell, the moment when they spot a snow leopard that O' Connell had been waiting to see for long but instead of shooting the photo O' Connell enjoys the view in  silence.
Shirley Mc Claine also appears as Walter's mother. and Kristen Wiig is Cheryl, Walter's love interest. The cast in general delivers a consistent performance.
If you want to see a movie with a little bit of everything (action, romance, fantasy, comedy), with a perspective on life that is optimistic and also realistic, with a Ben Stiller that offers his special kind of humor, a film that is a satire of the corporate world, a soul search, a comedy and love story, all in one, then this production is right for you.
