The Dark Knight Returns: Part 2
The second installment that takes to animation the cult story that decades ago revitalized Batman giving him back his grim reputation has finally seen the light. Those who still would like to see the Adam West Batman do a comeback will have to continue waiting just because that was never the real Batman. Frank Miller's version of Batman is.
And this second part shows a more ruthless vigilante than before. Back to protect Gotham in its direst hour Batman now has to face an old problem. The Joker has been in a mental institution all these years, bored to death and feeling there is nothing interesting in his life until he hears the news. The hero has returned and he, as his opposite number, feels the need to come back to action as well. And he does. Knowing that the new commissioner does not condone Batman's actions, the Joker uses his own doctor to get an invitation to a live night show where he kills everyone. Batman is unable to save anyone because the Police intervenes to capture him. Aided by the new Robin Batman manages to escape and gets ready for a final showdown with his archenemy at an amusement park. Even the Joker is surprised to see how obssessed Batman has become but decides to use that against the Caped Crusader: in their battle Batman compromises Joker's right eye and considering he has already killed too many people Batman breaks Joker's neck just enough so as to leave him quadraplejic but not dead. The Joker hears the Police coming and decides to leave evidence that the Batman has crossed the line already and with a final demential effort the Joker breaks his own neck completely, dying right away.
Batman then knows that in order to stop him the American government will send someone he could not possibly stop and that one is Superman, but as Bruce Wayne Batman has practically limitless resources and he actually has been getting ready for years for this final confrontation with the man that was once his ally and his friend. Right in Crime Alley, the place where Bruce´s parents were killed, Batman is ready to take on a Superman in the peak of his power. The fight is perhaps one of the most memorable if not the most memorable ever in the world of comic superheroes, one that proves why Batman is the most dangerous man on Earth.
