Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love
The City of Brotherly Love |
There is a reason why Phillys (Philadelphia's nickname) is called like that and we could safely say that in this case it's all in the name.
The expression it's all in the name indicates that whatever answer we are expecting that answer is in the name of a person or place connected to the case, e.g. the origin of the word Thursday. It means Thor's Day, a day named after Thor, god of thunder in the Norse mythology. The answer was in the name.
It's the same in the case of Philadelphia which to start with is not an English name. Its founder, William Penn , took that name from the Greek more specifically from the words Philo which means Love and Adelphos which means Brother, hence Brotherly Love.
In other words, to say Philadelphia, the city of Brotherly Love, is kind of redundant.
