Star Trek, The Motion Picture: the first was the best

The greatest science fiction series ever made just turned one year older last Friday, September 7. The story of Star Trek spans for centuries in the future and gives us a somewhat slightly optimistic vision of our fate as a species, describing the existence of a Federation of Planets to which Earth belongs to. A civilization that has learned of the tragedy and pain caused by past mistakes and lives now under a strict code of respect to whoever and whatever is different. It is a society that has successfully made the transition to spacefare and regularly sends starships to explore the universe with the Enterprise being the most important of those.
Each version of the Enterprise (there have been more than one)  has accopmplished great deeds thanks in no small part to the crews that have worked in each one, some of them legendary like the crew of the original series. Names such as Captain Kirk, Spock, Uhura, Scotty and others are now part of the pop culture. There have been other series  and a number of movies that tell the story of the Enterprises and their crews encompassing a saga that makes those who love Science Fiction just desire for more.
I know that there are those who would argue that the Star Wars are as good or even better than Star Trek: I love Star Wars and I admit that they are definitely more popular but they are more a huge story os space swordsmen, cowboys and power-thirsty dark lords, a wonderful one at it but not real Science Fiction. Here is an example:
With no previous warning an all powerful entity appears in the space of the Federation of Planets. Nothing can stop its relentless and silent voyage to Earth . The entity calls itself Vger and announces that is ready to sweep the Earth looking for "The Creator", a mysterious being that apparently exists in Earth but does not show itself to Vger. The Enterprise crew is sent to invesitgate and discover the staggering nature of Vger, a being that effectively comes from Earth and its way to the universe was changed in a way that grew and perfect itself to have godlike powers. Its return to Earth indicates that Vger is looking in The Creator something that Vger itself cannot get on its own device. The answer to what Vger really is, what it is searching for and what is going to happen after that is just so amazing that you cannot anything but wonder where Alan Dean Foster, the writer, got the idea for this story.
I have seen plenty of other SCI FI movies and series but like that, very few are as good.
