Spartacus: Blood and More Blood
Spartacus is a series produced by the cable network Starz that tells what happened when a Thracian warrior is made slave by the Romans when Rome was only a republic. His wife, Sura, is separated from him and taken somewhere while he is sold to a gladiator house. The owner of the house renames the Thracian and calls him Spartacus.
Baliatus, now the owner of Spartacus, cannot control him so he makes a deal with Spartacus offering to seek Sura and bring her in in exchange of Spartacus's services. With that offer in his mind he works and becomes an idol of the arena. Later on Spartacus discovers that Batiatus knew all along where Sura was and in fact he managed to have her captive knowing that his deal with Spartacus would be over the moment he reunites with Sura. In order to keep Spartacus, Batiatus had arranged Sura to be delivered to him but in state of near death. After that Baliatus had apologized to Spartacus for "not being able to rescue Sura earlier". Feeling he owed it to Batiatus, Spartacus stayed with Batiatus serving him faithfully until the day he got to know the truth. Then Spartacus's wrath and skills as a leader reveal. Heorganizes the other gladiators in a revolt, kills Batiatus and next he sets his sight on the Romans that capture him and Sura. But his thirst for revenge will become thirst for freedom: Spartacus will march against Rome increasing his army with the slaves he releases. Before his presence Rome will tremble.
This story was told in three different seasons called Spartacus: Blood and Sand, Spartacus: Vengeance, Spartacus: War of the Damned. The first season was starred by actor Andy Whitfield who at the end of that season was diagnosed with cancer. In the meantime a prequel was made called Spartacus:Gods of Arena which tells us the story of Gannicus who was also a slave of Batiatus and eventually won his freedom thanks to his gladiatorial achevements. Gannicus would later join Spartacus in his fight against Rome along Crixus, Oenimaeus and other gladiators and rebel slaves. Seasons two and three were starred by Lian McIntyre.
This series takes a lot of inspiration of the visuals used in 300. The violence is a constant and so are sex scenes and foul language, sorely limiting the age groups capable to access this content. The plot is interesting and incorporates a lot of characters with some of them endurin and others dying as the series progressed with notably the appearance of Lucy Lawlees as the voluptuose wife of Batiatus.
The series is not for kids and isover by now so if you have the time , get the four seasons perhaps in chronological order and enjoy a series that in a way wanted to offer a product full of violence but also that is valuable because he gives insight on the human condition when facing the not so agreeable face of slavery forever.
