Rise or Raise?
RISE is to move upwards. RAISE is to move to a higher position.
Here are some examples of the use of Rise.
- The Sun RISES in the East and sets in the West.

- The Sun RISES in the East and sets in the West.
- How unusual. The temperature today is RISING quite
rapidly!
- Rome ROSE to power mostly due to the belief that they were predestined
to do so.
- A mushroom-like cloud has RISEN on top of the volcano.
On the other hand, To Raise admits the presence of a
direct object. In each of the following examples the direct object appears in blue lettering.
- RAISE your hand if you have a question.
- All these scandals are RAISING a lot of doubts on the
artist’s reputation.
- The general’s passionate speech RAISED the morale of
the Army.
- The recent riots have RAISED the level of distrust in
our public institutions.
Another difference, though not really that important, is
that RISE is an irregular verb and RAISE is regular.
