The Little Mermaid: Her Real Story

One of those fairy tales that we know and don't know for real is The Little Mermaid. The reason for this claim is the fact that most of us know of this story thanks to Walt Disney who made a movie using one of the classic stories by Hans Chistian Andersen, a Danish writer who created The Little Mermaid in 1837. And the story he wrote was quite different from the Walt Disney version.
To start with the Little Mermaid does save the Prince from certain death and falls in  love with him in the process, but that is not the only reason she wants to become human: she also wants to have a human soul and for that she needs somebody to love. looking for a being powerful enough to give her what she wanted and she did. That being is the synister Sea Witch.
The following day, the mermaid wakes up having two beautiful legs, able to breathe air but unable to speak or sing for that is the price the Witch took as her payment.
The first one to find her is the Prince who is amazed at the beauty and gentle nature of the young mute girl. It would have been a matter of time until their wedding , but that never happened. The Prince is in love with the girl who saved him long ago who he erronously believes 1 to be another girl not the mermaid. Eventually the Prince marries the other girl not the mermaid who in turn seeing how much she has lost decides is time to return to the sea. Nevertheless we know she cannot come back to be  a mermaid again which is a result of the deal with the Sea Witch , so in other words the Little Mermaid wants to commit suicide.
The story finihes with the mermaid ecoming sea foam and somehow a spirit of nature that oversees children´s behavior and now she has to wait 300 years to get the soul she craved so much, but there is one more condition.. if a child is good one year is taken away from her sentence and if the child is bad then every tear she weeps for him/her will be one  more in her long sentence.
So is this not a sad story? Apparently there is a message hidden in this story, a mystery of love which we will never get to uncover because it was not meant for us. In my opinion a story like this deserves a better ending and the Little Mermaid also deserves better for her love is genuine and that is by far enough indication of an authentic human soul.
