Embedded Questions: questions within questions

An embedded question is one that is asked indirectly or said indirectly.
An embedded question is usually within another question or a statement.
If it is within a question the objective is usually to be polite, e.g.
Can you tell me what time it is?
The "original" question is of course:
What time is it?
An embedded question sounds definitely more corteous. Also condider that the order of the "original" question when it is part of an embedded question.
Do you know where the City Hall is?     (Correct)
Do you know where is the City Hall?     (Incorrect)
These are questions within questions, but there also questions within statements:
I need to know where I can find a good hotel.
The "original" questions is:
Where can I find a good hotel?
There is no real purpose in using a question within a statement other than perhaps reinforce the meaning of the question.
