January is Really the Name of a God
That is what is for real.
The name of this god is Janus and is not Greek but one of the few examples of a god that was only Roman. Most of the gods on the Roman pantheon were originally Greek whose names were changed when they became part of the Roman culture (Zeus became Jupiter, Ares became Mars and Hermes became Mercury)
Janus was an important god, usually represented as having two faces but not side by side: one of his faces looked into the past and the other into the future. Because of that double condition Janus was highly regarded among Romans which is why one of the early rulers of Rome named the first month of the year with the god's name since he was after all the god of beginnings, war and peace, time and many other things.
