Sword Art Online: When Fantasy is All Too Real
This story is set in the near future when apparently people have a lot of time to spend. One of the greatest forms of entertainment is playing as a character in a virtual reality game called Sword Art Online. The very first day thousands of people log in and soon they they find it is impossible to log out. The only way to log out is precisely to finish the game anf for that it is necessary to go through one hundred different levels, each one protected at the end by a "boss" more powerful than the previous one. Since the player's conciousness was inside the reality of the game the real player also remained asleep and besides disconnecting him or her from the machine that allowed the interface would mean instant death. One of the players who has taken the name Kirito is quite skilled and si determiend to beat the game. In his quest he falls in love with a girl called Asuna. it is thanks to her that Kirito discovers that Kabaya Akihiko, the creator of SAO (Sword Art Online) is also in the game and by defeating him the game is over and everyone is free. And that´s what they do. This is the end of part one, so to speak.
In the second part we see Kirito in real life and his sister, who is really adopted and secretly in love with him, Suguha. Asuna has not awakened and thanks to a friend Kirito discovers that Asuna is somehow trapped in another reality, Alfheim Online or ALO, and vows to rescue her. Unlike SAO, that was a game of swordmanship, ALO was a game of sorcery where everyone looked like elves. Helped by Leafa who is really Suguha, Kirito discovers that the creator of ALO, Nobuyuki Sugo, is who keeps Asuna as his prisoner. using his friends and allies, and his own determination Kirito defeats Sugo and frees Asuna once and for all.
At the end, Kirito reveals the many changes that these games have been integrating. Kirito and his friends have managed to bring the floating fortress that was the setting of SAO into ALO so this time they can play the game they way it was supposed to.
The visuals are great and the story is anything but boring. I would really like to see the other stories being translated into anime. It happens that this series is based on events from a group of novels created by Japanese writer, Reki Kawahara. So there are more stories with Kirito in them, and literally the imagination is the limit for what it could happen for this young virtual reality hero.
