The Amazing Spiderman: What the Reboot brings
This is definitely not Spiderman 4 but a reboot, meaning it is like the story told in
the other three movies never happened. This is a “new” Spiderman. Whether this
is bad or good, that is for each one to decide depending on how much you liked
the old version and the impression this new version makes on you when you see
it. First and most important, this Spiderman is more faithful to what originally
was told in the comics. Here are some things that are different:
-Just
like Eve was not Adam's first wife, Mary Jane Watson was not Peter Parker's first
love interest: Gwen Stacy was. Emma Watson plays Peter Parker's first love and hot girlfriend and makes you forget easily Kirsten Dunst's perfomance as Mary Jane Watson.
- We get to meet Peter's parents who were never mentioned in the previous films. The reason for their mysterious disappearance is a loose end that probably will be solved in future films.
- No Green Goblin. Not yet at least. Norman Osborn is mentioned but he never shows up, nor does his tormented and mild -mannered son, Harry.
- The events that lead to Uncle Ben's death which is a key moment for Spiderman are different. Peter never becomes arrogant and goes to a wrestling match to gather money and buy a car to impress the girl he likes and still he is somewhat responsible to cause his uncle's death.
-No job at the Daily Bugle, yet, but we get to see how much Peter likes taking pictures already.
-The web fluids are no longer secreted by his own wrists. They come out of specific cartridges designed by Parker himself.
-Uncle Ben's killer is never found. Not at least in this movie.
-The spider symbol looks now longer, more streamlined.
-The suit also looks different and its inspiration also comes from different sources. The red and blue colors remain though.
-The villain is The Lizard, Dr. Kurt Connor's monstrous alter ego. This character appeared in the first films as one of Peter's cpllege professors but nothing ever happened to him. Usually depicted as a mindless creature in the comics, here he retains his intelligence when he is the monster.

Despite of these changes being bad or good, Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker is darker, more believable, and better as a character than before. The visual effects of the film are stunning, especially those of the fight between Spiderman and the Lizard, though I like better the fight in Spiderman 2.
Amazing Spiderman is a good superhero movie, not the best I have seen, but a much needed reboot for a franchise that was going nowhere (Spiderman 3 was really lame). Go see it and make your own conclusions and as usual do not leave without seeing the after credit scene: there is a "man in the shadows", a villain whose identity I personally cannot figure out but will be revealed in future installments having apparently a direct connection with Peter Parker's disappearance.
Out of five stars I would give this one four despite its slow beginning. See it and love it or hate it.
