Lucille Ball : Best female comedian ever

Who else but Lucille Ball? This actress was one of those few people that brought so much happiness to so many people by doing what she loved the most: acting. And no one can compare to her since for some reason pretty women do not step into comedy the same way she did. Lucy was a queen of physical comedy (her sequence with Harpo is amazing!) and she could make gestures with her face that surely make Jim Carrey pale with envy every time he sees them. Yes, it was her time during the "I Love Lucy" series that was her best and not much of the productions she starred before or after that is remembered by fans, but still that alone is more than enough to guarantee her place among all the other Hollywood stars past and present. And this is my favorite sequence: Lucy always wanted to appear on TV but her husband, who was in the showbiz, always avoided giving her any chance because she had no talent at all. One day she gets wind that her husband needs a girl for a commercial in the program where he will appear as well. Somehow Lucy shows up instead of the girl that was selected without Ricky knowing that she did, but it turns out the product she has to advertise is a tonic of sorts with a high percentage of alcohol and because of the many times she has to taste it she ends up completely drunk! It's hilarious! Lucy is my favorite comedian and perhaps the best one in the field...ever!

The Maps of Ship-Trap Island

Once I had my high school students read The Most Dangerous Game, a short story by Richard Connell. Rainsford, the main character, is a professional hunter traveling by ship to his next hunting area, accidentally ends up in an island called Ship- Trap island. When he goes into the island he finds there are two men living in a palace in the island. One of them is a Cossack general and the other, his brutish servant.  The Cossack is called general Zaroff who is also  a game hunter but has become bored of hunting regular game and now uses the island's unique position to capture sailors from shipwrecks. He lets them go first and next after some time he hunts them down. Rainford's arrival who is worldwide famous presents Zaroff with a rare opportunity to find excitement in hunting again by hunting another hunter. Little does Zaroff know that Rainsford is The Most Dangerous Game in the World and hunting him will not be easy at all. My students enjoyed themselves at reading

How do you say NACIMIENTO NAVIDEÑO in English?

"Oh no! Not another power blackout!"             NACIMIENTO NAVIDEÑO or PESEBRE NAVIDEÑO is a tradition which consists in recreating the moment of Jesus Christ's birth with small figures representing Joseph, Mary, the shepherds and the Wise Kings. Baby Jesus is set on December 25th of course, while the other figures are placed before, usually at the beginning of December.       The translation is NATIVITY SCENE, though some people only say CHRISTMAS SCENE. This last term is a bit broad -- even an image of Santa Claus riding his sleigh falls under that description. Saying CHRISTMAS NATIVITY SCENE would be perhaps more appropriate.                                                                                        Merry Christmas!
