The Fantastic Four
One of the greatest, and perhaps the most original, superhero team of all time is the Fantastic Four. It is comprised by Reed Richards, an eminent scientist; Sue and Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm. They all went through an experiment in space that went wrong when some amount of bizarre cosmic energy manfested suring the experiment and altered their genetic makeup forever and giving them different powers.
Reed Richards gained the ability to stretch his body unimaginably and is now called Mr. Fantastic.
Sue Storm, who would eventually become Reed's wife, gained the ability to become invisible and project force fields. She is know as the Invisible Woman.
Her brother can ignite his body without getting burnt. He can also fly and throw fire blows. He is called The Human Torch.
Finally, there is Ben Grimm, whose skin is now made up of orange rocks. He is taller than before, invulnerable and extremely strong perhaps only second to the Hulk. He is called The Thing.
Occasionally either Johnny or Ben have stepped out for a while to be replaced by some other hero, most notably the She-hulk.
They have also been called the First family of superheroes because that is what they are: a family. In fact Reed and Sue have two children (both mutant because they have powers). Franklin, their first son, is perhaps the mightiest human because he can alter reality at will.
The FF have their base in New York in a place called the Baxter building and regularly face threats of cosmic proportions. It is in their book that Galactus, one of the most powerful beings in any universe, made his first appearance.
But perhaps the greatest thing about them is how human they are. They fall in love easily, they get in trouble easily and they are ready to help each other in spite of how disfunctional a family they are. The FF are so cool that they are also a bit unpredictable and here is proof: their strongest member is not The Thing but Sue Storm whose force fields once encapsulated Ben Grimm and almost killed him while mentally possessed.
A new reboot has been announced for these heroes but there is nothing definite yet. Anyway, they can be found, monthly as usual, in the funny pages.
