The First Capital of the United States
Washington D.C. has not always been the capital of the United States. The fair city of Philadelphia was first.
It was in Philadelphia that the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the Constitution in 1876 were signed by George Washington, John Adams, Jefferson among others. Philly as it is also called (The City of Brotherly Love, too) was founded in 1682 and it remained as capital of the United States until 1800 when Washington D.C. became officially the capital of the then still young nation and so it has remained until today.
