Now You See Me

Eight players, each one with a different role. Four magicians, a debunker, a millionaire and a police detective will move themselves as one moves pawns in a chess board.
The Eye is an secret organization made up by magicians who work following their own agenda One day four talented magicians played by Jesse Eisenberg, a street magician, Woody Harrelson, a mentalist, Isla Fisher as Henley Reeves, an escape artist, and Dave Franco as Jack Wilder, a street magician are contacted by this mysterious organization to assign them a mission. They will be The Four Horsemen and their mission seems at first to become modern Robin hoods but really is another, one the audience will find out as the film progresses. The film director (Louis Leterrier) makes sure to set false clues to what is happening and thus deceive the audience. One of those falsoe clues is making the viewer assume that the benefactor is the millionaire Arthur Tressler (Michael Caine) who actually is sponsoring only their act unaware of their secret agenda that includes him as a target. The FBI and Interpol will be after The Four Horsemen trying to find proof of their crimes. The FBI agent Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo) and Interpol agent Alma Dray (Mélanie Laurent will be somehow helped by Thaddeus Bradley (Morgan Freeman) a former magician who makes money revealing the secrets of other magicians. Bradley is hired by Tressler to unmask The Four Horsemen after they steal money from him which they in turn give to people who never received an insurance from Tressler's insurance company. But Bradley is himself another target in the Horsemen's agenda. At the end it is Bradley who figures out already too late that the only purpose of The horsemen was not to steal money but to seek revenge against for a crime he committed in the past. The circumstances of that crime and the identity of the mastermind behind The Four Horsemen is what keeps the excitement of the film high till the end aside the great tricks and stage acts performed by the magicians.
Personally, I think this is only a good movie that relies too much on gimmicks and a plot that could have been better written. The cast is spectacular but when you have so many great actors together the final product seems to shine less rather than more. Still it is as I said a good movie, quite entertaining and sometimes smart, but in the end forgettable with or without magic tricks.
Three stars out of five for this one.
